I can install it in a machine with a running OS and try to mount it read-only. The best thing you can do is make sure you don't write anything to it at this point, until you've determined how bad things are. If you're uncomfortable sending it down to FL to a basic stranger, I'd be more than happy to walk you through it over the phone.
